Project Description
Smart Analytics Toolkit
With the increasing ease of accessing data, organizations are looking for new ways to explore their own data to improve support for decision making at different levels of the organization, from top management to operational areas.
The Smart Analytics Toolkit aims to develop a tool that will allow our customers to apply machine learning techniques to large volumes of data from different sources, producing value-added insights to support the decision-making of electrical network dispatch operators, maximizing the feedback to the customer.

Description
In one side, electrical grid operators are facing new challenges that are changing the way how the electrical grids are managed and controlled.
Electrical grids have evolved from the simple systems of the past to increasing complex systems controlled in realtime by millions of devices that, in the end, are monitored by human Operators from Control Rooms.
At same time, the quantity of data that is processed and manipulated and the complexity of the decisions taken by these operators is equally increasing.
On the other side, with existing and emerging technologies, collecting and storing huge volumes of data is no more a problem. We have virtualization that simplifies the management of large scale systems. We have large digital communications improvements, like IoT and 5G, that scaled up the capacity for connecting devices. Or we have augmented reality that enables a different way of interaction. Or time series databases to efficiently store large amounts of data.
However, we need new strategies to extract valuable information from the data that is becoming available, combining different machine learning technics.
The Smart Analytics Toolkit is a tool that will allow to apply machine learning techniques in real-time to large volumes of data.
This data will arrive to the Control Center from field devices, either in real-time or in batch mode and will be combined with operator actions.
The result should be value-added information for the utility as a whole:
• At the Control Room, enabling more efficient and sustainable operational decisions;
• For the Maintenance Department anticipating and preventing incidents in the grid;
• For the top management making available the most up-to-date information and maximizing the return of investment of our customers.
Why is this tool important?
• The real value is in the information NOT in the data
• It will provide us with the next generation tool for smart reporting
• It will enable customers to make the most of the data they already have.
